Who am I?

My name is Pavlo Stasiouk. I am a visual artist, folk singer, iconographer, and philosopher. In my work I aim to honor tradition in a living and dynamic way in order to cultivate virtue and beauty within and without. I was born in the wooded hills of Northeast Ohio, amongst creeks, frogs and waterfalls. Deeply embedded in the Ukrainian diaspora that lives there, I was instilled with a deep reverence for those who came before me and the traditions they passed down to me.

Through combining my love of God, nature, folklore, and mythology; my art and philosophy strives to present the ancient worldview as viable and necessary for human flourishing. Through this marriage of influences (Christianity, Ancient Philosophy, Ukrainian folklore, and the Natural World) I hope to reveal an aesthetic and way-of-being that is both traditional and living.

What is my Vision?

I envision a refuge for the weary soul, a place where birds love to sing. Where one can tend to their forgetfulness of a God-filled cosmos and educate their soul in the refreshing waters of memory, a dream of better days. A place that reminds one of paradise amidst the chaotic seas. A place of rest, healing, learning and good-living. A place where every flower and carved wooden spoon is bursting with love and meaning, where not a single corner is without an image of God. Here the weary soul can become a verdant bonfire, to send his and her embers flying to lighten every gloomy shade. Be this place a cup that overflows, a candle that ever-shines, a field always blooming. A place where man can hear the birds and learn (remember) to sing along. A refuge, a school, a home for those who wish to befriend our God.

This refuge, this school, this home is inspired by my time discerning monastic life, studying Plato’s academy, living in the Ukrainian village. It is a place to learn that is not about a degree, but rather about bathing in wisdom, and growing for the sake of pursuing and becoming more like the Good. Teaching everything from geometry to philosophy, religion to science, traditional craftsmanship to practical farming. This vision for a village needs a village, and so that is why this is here. An invitation to those who have heard the same call I have heard.

How can you Commission me?

This website is here for community, as it is here to present myself to the world. Here you can commission me for artwork, be it a pen drawing on paper for a tattoo, or an icon on a gessoed board for your friend’s wedding. Perhaps you wish for a folksinger, perhaps you seek a writer, perhaps you have found a friend.
